About Vedanta Aluminium Metal Ltd

Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited, established on October 6, 2023, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vedanta Limited (VEDL) operating in the metal and mining sector. The company engages in the mining and processing of bauxite, refining of alumina, and the production and sale of aluminium. It operates one of the world’s largest aluminium smelters in Jharsuguda, Odisha, with an annual production capacity of 1.85 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). Supporting this operation are two captive thermal power plants at Jharsuguda, with a combined power generation capacity of 3,015 MW. Additionally, it owns an alumina refinery in Lanjigarh, Odisha, with a refining capacity of 5 MTPA and captive power co-generation capacity of 155 MW, which is set to expand by 50 MW. The company was created following a Scheme of Arrangement approved by the Board of Vedanta Limited on September 29, 2023, dividing various business segments, including aluminium, merchant power, oil & gas, base metals, and iron ore. Under this restructuring, Vedanta’s Aluminium Segment, including investments in Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), has transferred into Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited. The scheme was endorsed by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), with its effectiveness dated May 1, 2026. As part of this demerger process, the company issued 3.91 billion equity shares with a face value of Re. 1 each under the Scheme of Arrangement. Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited’s strategic focus on mining, refining, and power assets positions it as a significant player in the global aluminium industry, leveraging integrated operations and captive energy resources to serve its smelting and refining capacities.
