Transchem Limited (TL), established in 1976 and public since 1992, initially focused on chemicals and pharmaceuticals before diversifying into mushroom production in 1993. Situated in Pune, the company operated a 100% Export Oriented Unit (EOU) for mushrooms, although the plant has been non-operational for several years due to changes in the international horticulture market. TL manufactures bulk drugs like frusemide, fenbendazole, and albendazole in Maharashtra and exports to countries including the US and Canada.
In the 1990s, TL expanded its operations with a public issue to finance new projects, including a mushroom venture in collaboration with Dalsem Reciap Agro Industries, Holland. The company plans further diversification into asparagus, strawberries, and raspberries cultivation with a potential partnership with FTC, Holland. Despite hiving off its Pharma Division in 2008, TL continues to innovate, having developed processes for Cloursulon and Toldium Phos Sodium, and secured international contracts for products like Triclabendazole.
