Switching Technologies Gunther (STGL), incorporated on April 27, 1988, is a prominent Indian manufacturer and exporter of electronic components, specializing in reed switches, proximity sensors, and ball switches. It is one of only two companies in India producing reed switches, with its operations based in the Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ). The company caters primarily to the aircraft, industrial control, automotive, and power industries, exporting extensively to the European market.
STGL has a significant international connection through its promoter, W Gunther from Germany, who holds a 61.22% stake. The company has a buy-back arrangement with its promoter and has achieved UL/CSA recognition for its products in North America. Despite a net profit decline in 1998-99 due to exchange fluctuations, STGL is undertaking restructuring efforts to enhance plant efficiency and has commenced production of new switch types for broader applications in automation and telecommunications.
