Sumitomo Chemical India Limited (SCIL), originally incorporated in 2000, is a publicly traded company and subsidiary of Sumitomo Chemical Company Limited, Japan. It specializes in manufacturing household insecticides, agricultural pesticides, public health insecticides, and animal nutrition products. In 2018, SCIL merged with Excel Crop Care Limited, expanding its presence with subsidiaries in Tanzania and Belgium. Following the merger, SCIL's shares were listed on BSE and NSE in January 2020, reducing the parent company's stake to ensure compliance with public shareholding norms.
SCIL navigated the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic with minimal disruptions due to its classification as an essential service. In 2022, it expanded its manufacturing capacity and explored new product lines, while also enhancing its sustainability efforts by commissioning an additional 1.8 MW solar power plant for captive use. Despite administrative hurdles in filing the Return of Allotment, SCIL maintains a strong market presence, with the promoters holding a 75% stake as of 2021.
