It had technical collaborations with international companies such as Furukawa Battery Company, Japan, and Hagen Batterie, Germany, and provided batteries to major automotive manufacturers and telecom companies. However, in 1998, the company shifted its focus from batteries to dealing in steel and metals, selling its entire battery business to Exide Industries Limited. Despite its past prominence in the battery industry, SBL has since transformed into a company focused on the steel and metals sector.
