The company originally set up a plant in Mahad, Maharashtra, for producing speciality non-woven fabrics, with commercial production starting in 1988. It has been a supplier of automotive carpets to leading automobile manufacturers like Maruti Udyog Ltd and General Motors India.
In 2009, SRM Energy Pvt. Ltd. merged with the company, leading to its current name, SRM Energy Ltd. The company has also ventured into power generation, with its Cuddalore Power Division being transferred to its wholly-owned subsidiary, SRM Energy Tamilnadu Private Limited, in 2012. The company's strategic initiatives include partnerships with European manufacturers and investments in product development technologies, positioning it as a versatile player in both the textiles and energy sectors.
