Saurashtra Cement Ltd (SCL), established in 1956, is a prominent cement manufacturer based in Ranavav, Gujarat. Initially set up with an investment from the Mehta group, SCL has expanded its operations over the decades. The company, which turned around from bankruptcy without assistance, holds a 23% market share in Gujarat's cement industry. SCL also manufactures paints, having acquired Snowcem Paints Pvt. Ltd.'s business. It has strategic technical collaborations, such as with Fuller, US, for plant equipment designs, and holds a limestone mining lease near its plant.
The company has undergone significant restructuring and expansion, including the amalgamation of subsidiaries and the acquisition of Gujarat Sidhee Cement Limited, which was finalized in March 2023. This merger led to the issuance of new equity shares to GSCL shareholders. SCL has also embarked on a digital transformation initiative, 'Project Parivartan', to enhance its operations. Despite past financial challenges, SCL has adjusted its business strategy to maintain and grow its industry presence.
