About Ruby Mills Ltd The Ruby Mills Limited (TRML), established in 1917, is a comprehensive textile manufacturer specializing in cotton and blended yarn and fabric. It operates three plants located in Mumbai, Village Dhamni, and Village Kharsundi near Khopoli. The company is in the process of transitioning its fabric processing operations from Mumbai to Village Kharsundi. Ruby Impex is a wholly-owned subsidiary of TRML.
The company faced operational challenges in 1994-95 due to significant price hikes in polyester, viscose, and cotton, along with a viscose staple fibre shortage affecting production for five months. In response, TRML modernized its production capabilities by acquiring 30 Sulzer looms, replacing older equipment. To enhance market reach, TRML expanded its marketing strategy from wholesale to direct marketing with a nationwide distribution network. However, the government’s decision to allow fabric imports during the same period negatively impacted product demand.
