Prima Industries Ltd, part of the Cochin-based Prima Group established in 1965, specializes in agro-industrial activities. Since its incorporation in 1994, the company operates in three primary divisions: Solvent Extraction, Oil Refining, and Animal Feed. Its facilities, located in Kanjikode, Palakad, are capable of processing various oil-bearing materials, including mustard, cottonseed, rapeseed, and sunflower cake, with a significant capacity for oil extraction and refining.
The company launched a public issue in 1995 to fund its solvent extraction and oil refining projects, which commenced in 1996. Prima has diversified its raw material sources and established a partnership with Hindustan Lever Limited to enhance its processing capabilities. In 1999-2000, it introduced consumer pack oils under the 'Prima Brand,' receiving favorable market feedback. By 2014-15, Prima upgraded its Animal Feed Division with a fully automated plant, producing high-quality, nutritious feeds for domestic markets, including manufacturing for Kerala Feed Ltd.
