Powergrid Infrastructure Investment Trust (PGInvIT) is an Infrastructure Investment Trust registered with SEBI since January 2021, sponsored by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Power. PGInvIT, listed on BSE and NSE since May 2021, is structured to own, construct, operate, and maintain power transmission assets across India. Its initial portfolio includes five inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) projects awarded under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism, encompassing 11 transmission lines and three substations with notable transformation capacity.
The Investment Manager, Powergrid Unchahar Transmission Limited, a subsidiary of PGCIL, manages the trust's assets and strategic investment directions. PGCIL, with extensive experience in power transmission and telecom infrastructure, has a dominant market share in TBCB-awarded projects, operating 1,276 transmission lines and 252 substations as of September 2020. PGInvIT's IPO in May 2021 raised Rs.7,734.991 crore, reflecting significant investor interest. The trust provides diversified equity investor access and project financing options, establishing it as a vital player in India's power infrastructure sector.
