Panyam Cement and Mineral Industries Ltd (PCMIL), established in 1955, operates in the cement, chemical, and engineering sectors. Based in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, its cement plant has a capacity of 5.31 lakh TPA. PCMIL produces Portland cement under the brand Pyramid and has diversified into steel wire manufacturing following the amalgamation with Deccan Wires. The company faced challenges in its chemical division, suspending operations in 1999-2000, and sought closure due to financial strains.
Despite setbacks, PCMIL resumed cement production in 2006 and modernized its cement operations by increasing the kiln capacity significantly in 2008, completed in 2011. The company improved logistics in FY 2016-17 with the completion of railway siding works and operational efficiencies, reducing costs. In recent developments, PCMIL restarted grinding operations in May 2022 and resumed clinker production in March 2023, aiming to stabilize and enhance its cement production capabilities.
