National General Industries Limited, originally founded as a sole proprietorship by Ashok Kumar Gupta in 1967, has evolved significantly over the years. Converted to a partnership in 1986, it later became a private limited company in 1987, and subsequently a public limited company in 1993. The company specializes in manufacturing and selling steel from its facilities in Ghaziabad, with a focus on rolling constructional steels.
Under the leadership of the current promoters, A K Modi, P K Modi, and their family, the company has expanded its production capabilities significantly. Initially operating with a capacity of 9,600 tpa, the firm enhanced its infrastructure with new rolling mills and a modified billet re-heating furnace, boosting capacity to 15,000 tpa and later to 33,000 tpa, after an expansion-cum-diversification project in 1995-96. Further growth was supported by a public issue to finance long-term working capital. In 2010, commercial production began at its new steel casting unit in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan.
