Molbio Diagnostics Limited (formerly Molbio Diagnostics Private Limited) was incorporated on October 20, 2000 in Panaji. It converted into a public limited company and was renamed Molbio Diagnostics Limited, receiving a fresh certificate of incorporation dated January 16, 2025.
The company is an innovative point-of-care (POC) diagnostics business focused on expanding access to accurate, rapid, and cost-effective technologies for diagnosing infectious and non-communicable diseases. It developed the Truenat platform in 2015, a battery-operated POC PCR platform designed for resource-limited settings, enabling decentralized diagnosis within about an hour. Molbio entered into a joint venture agreement in August 2011 with Bigtec Innovations Private Limited and Bigtec Private Limited, and Bigtec Innovations Private Limited merged with Molbio in 2015.
Molbio operates five manufacturing facilities in India, including two in Goa and facilities in Bengaluru (Karnataka) and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). Its business includes manufacturing chip-based diagnostic devices, chips and reagents, X-ray equipment, and single/dual detector solutions, as well as developing diagnostic devices and working in areas such as bio-sensing and digital pathology. The company supplies products globally to public health programs, diagnostic laboratories, and private and public hospitals.
To diversify beyond diagnostics, Molbio acquired 65.47% of Prognosys Medical Systems Pvt Ltd in February 2023 to venture into radiology equipment, and bought a 19.68% stake in US-based OptraScan Inc. in October 2024 to expand into digital pathology scanners. The company plans an IPO comprising a Rs 200 crore fresh issue and an offer for sale of 12,556,000 equity shares (Re 1 each).
