About Meenakshi (India) Ltd

Meenakshi India Limited (MIL), founded in 1982 by Mr. Shyam Sunder Goenka, began as a textile trading company headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It started its own manufacturing operations in 1990 and has since developed interests across multiple sectors, including steel, plantations, power generation, industrial warehousing, and education. The company’s core operations include garment manufacturing, with its production base shifted to Salem, Tamil Nadu—a key textile hub—in 2001. MIL operates three manufacturing units in Salem and reports advanced facilities capable of producing up to 240,000 garments per month, with capacity additions and expansions implemented over time. MIL expanded its product and processing capabilities through the mid-2000s onward. Capacity was doubled with the establishment of Unit 2 and entry into bottomwear and outerwear segments in 2006–07. It added washing (laundry) and embroidery facilities in 2008, and increased sewing capacity in 2011 by establishing a third unit, taking combined capacity to 100,000 garments per month at that time. The third unit was later expanded by 50%, raising monthly garment capacity to 150,000 in FY22, and the company diversified into athleisure production in 2023. Outside textiles, MIL entered agriculture in 1993 by acquiring 280 acres in Sirumalai, Dindigul, for coffee, pepper, and other seasonal fruits.
