Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) is a Schedule A' Miniratna CPSE under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India. Founded in 1988, MRPL is a subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), holding 71.63% equity, and primarily engages in crude oil refining. The company operates a 15 MMT refinery in Mangalore and has expanded its petrochemical operations through ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited (OMPL), producing paraxylene for export. MRPL’s joint venture with Shell, Shell MRPL Aviation Fuels and Services Limited, markets aviation turbine fuel across India.
MRPL has undergone significant expansion and modernization, including the integration of OMPL and commissioning of various units such as the Delayed Coker Unit and FCC Gasoline Treating Unit to enhance production efficiency and product range. It added retail outlets and explored new crude sources to diversify its portfolio. The company has been recognized with Schedule 'A' status, providing greater operational autonomy and competitiveness in the global market.
