Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) is a leading city gas distribution company in India, authorized to distribute compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad in Maharashtra. Established in 1995 as a joint venture among the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), the BG Group UK, and the Government of Maharashtra, MGL has developed a comprehensive network of pipelines for natural gas distribution.
Over the years, MGL has significantly expanded its infrastructure and consumer base. By March 2020, the company had established over 476 km of steel pipelines and more than 5,154 km of polyethylene pipelines, alongside 256 CNG filling stations. MGL has focused on expanding its network, particularly in Raigad, and has introduced new technologies such as electric vehicle charging facilities and composite dispensing units. As of 2022-23, MGL continues to enhance its distribution capabilities, adding a new City Gate Station and expanding its network with 314 km of gas pipeline.
