Madras Fertilizers Ltd (MFL), established in 1966, is a public sector undertaking primarily owned by the Government of India (59.50%) and the National Iranian Oil Company (25.77%), with the public holding 14.73%. The company, headquartered on a 350-acre site in Manali near Chennai, specializes in the production of Ammonia, Urea, Complex Fertilizers, and Biofertilizers, and trades in Agrochemicals. MFL boasts significant production capabilities, with annual capacities of 346,500 MT for Ammonia, 486,750 MT for Urea, and 840,000 MT for NPK fertilizers. Despite challenges, including becoming a sick company post-2004 due to policy changes, MFL has continued operations with enhanced production technologies. The company has also adapted to new government regulations, such as the shift from naphtha-based operations, demonstrating resilience in its core fertilizer business.
