Kothari Petrochemicals Limited (KPL), established in 1989, is a leading producer of Poly Iso Butylene (PIB) in India, commanding 90% of the domestic market with a production capacity of 24,000 tonnes annually. In a strategic move to streamline operations, KPL dissolved its subsidiaries in Hong Kong and Singapore in 2017, repatriating investments back to India. To enhance its raw material supply, KPL launched a Lean Poly Iso Butylene Feed Stock plant in 2016 and a 2 MW captive power plant in 2017, ensuring a reliable and cost-effective power supply.
Despite production challenges in 2017 and 2018 due to power plant synchronization issues and maintenance stoppages, KPL maintained a high capacity utilization of 94%. In 2019, the company invested in an Effluent Water Recycle Plant to comply with environmental regulations and reduce water costs. A DeBottlenecking Project completed by 2023 increased the production capacity to 48,000 MT annually, positioning KPL for continued growth in the PIB market.
