Kothari Fermentation and Biochem Ltd (KFBL), established in 1990, produces yeast and related derivatives under the brand name 'Sunrise' from its plant in Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh. With an annual production capacity of 25,000 M.T. of compressed yeast, the company serves the distillery, food, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical sectors. In 2008, KFBL modernized its operations with an Effluent Treatment Plant and additional installations like a multi-effect evaporator and agro-fuel-based boiler.
The company overcame financial challenges by implementing a Rehabilitation Scheme from the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) in 2008. In FY 2021-22, KFBL expanded its operations with a new Yeast Extract Powder Plant capable of producing 50 MT per month. This expansion highlights KFBL's recovery and ongoing contribution to various industries by providing high-quality yeast products.
