About Kanco Tea & Industries Ltd Kanco Tea & Industries Limited, established in 1983, specializes in the plantation, manufacturing, and sale of black tea within India. The company operates primarily through its two tea estates, Mackeypore and Lakmijan, located in Assam's renowned 'Quality Belt' region. Together, these estates produce approximately 2 million kilograms of tea annually over a cultivation area of 1136.76 hectares. The Mackeypore Tea Estate factory, with a processing capacity of 2.5 million kilograms, is fully upgraded and largely automated, ensuring efficient production.
Kanco Tea purchases green leaves from external suppliers, processed under the Lakmijan mark, separate from its own Mackeypore mark, to mitigate brand dilution. The company faces volatility in selling prices of tea made from bought leaves. In 2017, Kanco Tea expanded its operations by acquiring Bamonpookrie Tea Estate, enhancing its production capabilities with separate lines for bought leaves and Orthodox teas. The Mackeypore estate meets ISO 22000:2018 and ISO 9001:2015 standards for food safety and quality management.
