About Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited (JPVL), originally Jaiprakash Hydro-Power Limited, is a key player in India's hydroelectric sector and part of the Jaypee Group. The company began with the Baspa-II 300 MW hydroelectric project in Himachal Pradesh, operational since 2003, marking India’s largest private sector hydro project. Over the years, JPVL expanded through mergers, including the integration of Jaypee Karcham Hydro Corporation and Bina Power Supply, augmenting its capacity with substantial projects like the 1000 MW Jaypee Karcham Wangtoo and the 1250 MW Jaypee Bina Thermal Power Plant.
The company has undergone significant structural changes, including transferring assets to subsidiaries and selling stakes to streamline operations. Notably, the 2014 acquisition agreement with TAQA was terminated, and in 2015, key assets were sold to JSW Energy. JPVL's strategic maneuvers, like the sale of its stake in Jaypee Powergrid Ltd., reflect its evolving strategy to optimize its power generation portfolio amidst financial restructuring initiatives.
