Hariyana Ship Breakers Limited (HSBL), incorporated in 1981, is engaged primarily in ship-breaking operations at the renowned Alang Ship Breaking Yard. The company, promoted by the Agarwal family, also deals in trading HR Coils and pursues investment activities. HSBL purchases ships for dismantling from both domestic and international sellers, and has dismantled notable ships including the M V Chidambaram, a significant passenger liner.
The company encountered challenges in the early 1990s due to a shortage of ships for dismantling and foreign exchange issues for importing vessels. In 2007, HSBL underwent a merger with Hariyana Fashions Private Limited and Hariyana Machinery Exports Private Limited, resulting in the issuance of additional equity shares and enabling the merged entity to expand its shareholder base. This strategic move was sanctioned by the Bombay High Court, reinforcing the company's expansion and consolidation in its core ship-breaking business.
