Cochin Malabar Estates & Industries Ltd
About Cochin Malabar Estates & Industries Ltd The Cochin Malabar Estates and Industries Limited, founded on March 14, 1930, operates primarily in rubber and tea plantations in Kerala and Karnataka, India. The company manages three rubber estates in Kerala and had restructured a tea estate in Idukki with high-yield varieties. Since 2001, under the management of the Bangurs, the company expanded its core plantation activities and diversified into areas such as fire engineering in Mumbai and aquaculture in Goa. The company also operates a rubber wood processing factory near Kinalur Estate, utilizing foreign technology. The company is renowned for its premium-grade rubber products, particularly centrifuged latex used in condom manufacturing. In 2012, a demerger under a court-sanctioned Scheme of Arrangement led to the transfer of certain plantation divisions to Joonktollee Tea & Industries Ltd., resulting in Cochin Malabar Estates ceasing to be its subsidiary from October 2013. This restructuring marks a significant strategic shift in the company's operations.
