About Chrome Silicon Ltd VBC Ferro Alloys Ltd, established in 1981 in Andhra Pradesh, focuses on manufacturing Ferro Silicon. Originally expanding its ferro silicon capacity and diversifying into low phosphorus pig iron production, the company faced challenges in the early 1990s due to market conditions and power issues, leading to financial struggles and a referral to the BIFR for rehabilitation. By 1995-96, IDBI facilitated a recovery plan approved by the BIFR.
In a strategic shift, VBC Ferro Alloys ventured into the power sector. Between 2006 and 2010, the company set up a 65 MW captive thermal power plant and, through Konaseema Gas Power Ltd., a 460 MW natural gas-based power plant, which began operations in June 2010. Further expansion in the energy sector saw the incorporation of two power companies, Konaseema Gas Power Limited and Orissa Power Consortium Limited, in 2014-15. The company's clientele includes major integrated and mini steel plants and foundries.
