About Bharat Dynamics Ltd Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) is a leading Indian defense public sector undertaking engaged in the production of surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), underwater weapons, launchers, and countermeasure systems. As the sole manufacturer of SAMs and torpedoes in India, BDL is the exclusive supplier of these critical defense components to the Indian Armed Forces. Established in 1970 and headquartered in Hyderabad, BDL operates three main manufacturing facilities in Hyderabad, Bhanur, and Vishakhapatnam, with additional plants underway in Ibrahimpatnam and Amravati.
BDL has seen consistent growth with significant contracts, including a Rs 14,180 crore order for the Akash Weapon System from the Indian Army. It has been recognized for its excellence with awards such as the Raksha Mantri's institutional award. The company was converted to a public limited entity in 2017, with an IPO reducing the Government of India's stake to 74.93% as of March 2023. BDL continues to advance its facilities, focusing on modernization and technology upgrades, including new R&D initiatives and collaborations with international defense firms.
