About Primo Chemicals Ltd Primo Chemicals Ltd, formerly Punjab Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd, is the largest caustic soda producer in Northern India, operating two units at its Naya Nangal complex in Punjab. Established in 1975, the company has expanded its production capacity significantly over the years, from an initial 300 TPA to 500 TPA, now boasting a combined manufacturing capacity of 165,000 TPA of caustic soda. Its product portfolio includes Caustic Soda Lye and by-products such as Hydrochloric Acid, Liquid Chlorine, Sodium Hypochlorite, and Hydrogen gas. The company has undergone several expansions and technological upgrades, including a shift from graphite to metal anodes and the commissioning of waste air de-chlorination units. Despite its growth, Primo Chemicals faced financial difficulties and was classified as a sick company by BIFR. It has also ventured into projects like setting up a Chlorinated Paraffin Wax plant and plans to establish a 35 MW captive power plant to enhance operational efficiency.
